Today we are excited to announce the launch of our OSINT Intelligence Dashboard, a comprehensive real-time monitoring system that provides unprecedented visibility into Norwegian salmon production across all 13 aquaculture regions.
What is OSINT?
OSINT stands for Open Source Intelligence. In the context of salmon markets, it refers to the systematic collection and analysis of publicly available data from authoritative sources. Our OSINT dashboard aggregates data from Barentswatch, the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries, and other official sources to provide a unified view of production conditions.
Key Features
Production Zone Monitoring
Track conditions across all 13 Norwegian production zones with an interactive map interface. Each zone displays current biomass levels, active licenses, and recent harvest activity. Click on any zone to drill down into site-level details.
Sea Lice Tracking
Sea lice levels are one of the most critical factors affecting salmon production costs and harvest timing. Our dashboard displays weekly lice counts from mandatory reporting, with alerts when levels approach regulatory thresholds that could trigger mandatory harvesting.
Why Sea Lice Matter
When sea lice levels exceed 0.5 adult female lice per fish, producers may face mandatory delousing treatments or accelerated harvesting. This directly impacts supply volumes and market prices. Early visibility into rising lice levels gives traders an edge in anticipating supply disruptions.
Supply Pressure Index
Our proprietary Supply Pressure Index combines multiple signals—biomass levels, harvest rates, smolt releases, and forward bookings—into a single actionable score. A high supply pressure score indicates potential downward price pressure from excess supply, while a low score suggests tighter supply conditions.
Slaughterhouse Activity
Monitor processing capacity and activity across 80+ Norwegian fish processing facilities. Understanding slaughterhouse utilization helps anticipate bottlenecks and supply flow dynamics.
Data Sources
All data in the OSINT dashboard comes from authoritative public sources:
- Barentswatch: Real-time aquaculture data from the Norwegian government
- Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries: License information and regulations
- Statistics Norway (SSB): Export volumes and trade statistics
- Norwegian Meteorological Institute: Sea temperature data
